Verona

The 2006 World Computer Bridge Championship will be held from June 17-22 at the World Bridge Championships in Verona, Italy.

Jack won the title in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. In 2005 Jack won the Round Robin but ended up being the loosing finalist with WBridge5 taking the title. For the first time in its existence Jack had to get used to not being the World Champion, in 2006 Jack will try to regain the title.
The Danish Shark Bridge will make its first appearance at this year's championship. The other participants have all proven their qualities in past championships.

Day 1 - good start for Jack

On the first day the programs started with the Round Robin preliminaries. The programs meet in 28 board matches with a 30 VP international scale.
Jack had a good start with a convincing victory on Q-Plus. Defending champion WBridge5 started with a bye (15 VP) thus starting in the mid-section of the ranking.

Day 3 - Jack winner Round Robin

Jack did extremely well in the Round Robin preliminaries, winning all individual matches. Concluded by a convincing 23-7 victory over defending champion WBridge5, Jack finished first in the Round Robin today (see also ranking).
Allthough it finished last, the first-time contestant Shark Bridge performed well at the championship. Grabbing 5 VP's, or more, from its opponents, Shark Bridge even influenced the ranking of the other programs.

Day 4 - Semi finals: WBridge5 looses title, final Jack(+8) - Micro Bridge

Semi finals: Jack(+16) - Q-plus; Micro Bridge(+0) - WBridge5

In the semi-finals Jack meets the German Q-Plus Bridge. Jack starts with a 16 pts carry over for winning their first encounter in the Round Robin. The other semi-final between Micro Bridge and WBridge5 has no carry over: their first match was a draw (15 VP's each) with a 77-76 result.

Halfway into the semi finals Jack leads taking a distance from Q-Plus, whereas Micro Bridge and WBridge5 are still very close with a 1 point difference. See results semi-finals down below.

Semi finals: WBridge5 looses title, final Jack(+8) - Micro Bridge

Micro Bridge beats WBridge5 by 141 - 133. Jack beats Q-Plus by 239 - 41.

Day 5 - Final: And the winner is . . . J A C K !!!!!!!

And that makes 5! For the 5th time this millennium Jack is the World Champion. Micro Bridge was beaten 217 - 54 in the final.
